The Power of Life

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Moses told the Israelites, “Behold I set before you life and death…” (See several instances in the book of Deuteronomy) These two basic powers, the power of life and the power of death, are still at work in our world today.

We live in a world fixated on the power of death and on manipulation by the fear of death. We seem to have a greater familiarity with and respect for death than life. This can be seen in our interactions from global politics down to the foods we eat.

The laws of life were established long ago. These laws can’t be circumvented by any amount of regulations by the FDA or other governmental agencies. These ancient laws clearly state that the power of life lies in the interactions between your cells and your food. Take for instance Jesus’ statement, “…I live because of the Father, so he who eats me shall live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, …he who eats this bread shall live forever. (John 6: 57-58)

There are many mysteries concerning food that we don’t understand. There may well be mysteries we haven’t even recognized. But no matter how you divide up the human (e.g. spiritual, mental, and physical or some other distinctions) it is food that provides the power of life.

I have felt the power of death flowing in my body. I have experienced the power of life. When life flows in your every vein, when life bathes every cell of your body, death is swept out. It is food that brings this to pass.

Jesus was talking about “spiritual food.” But there is physical food that imparts life to the body. This food is alive with the wisdom of survival since life began on Earth. It contains a full complement of the nutrients the human body needs. These nutrients come in the necessary combinations and balance to make it easy for your body to get them and for your cells to use them.

At every meal we are faced with Moses’ point of decision. There, on the table before you, is either death or life. It is up to you to make the choice.
